I finally got my assignment!! I will be living in the city of Guayaquil on the coast and working for the Ilustre Municipio de Guayaquil! My counterparts are Dr. Miguel Morla and Dr. Carlos Farhat who both work for the Municipio and have their own practices in the city. My site assignment letter outlines that I will working in city schools and high schools on HIV/AIDS prevention and designing/implementing campaigns to raise awareness in schools.
My host family comes highly recommended by my counterparts. So far I have learned that my host mom is a doctor and that I have two sisters that are about my age. I cant wait to get to Guayaquil to meet my new host family and my new co-workers. Today I will travel to Quito and then take a 8 hour bus ride overnight to Guayaquil. I will be picked up by Dr. Morla at the bus station and then I have a half day of work. The purpose of my site visit this week is to get to know my host families, my counterparts and to do a prelim assessment of my host site. I will return by bus Saturday night and arrive back in Paquiestancia on Sunday morning.
I just plugged in my work address and my host family´s address and they are not that far apart which is such a relief!! Heres the Google Maps Link:
Here are some pictures of the Municipio and downtown Guayaquil!!
