I am writing from my new office in downtown Guayaquil in the Municipio de Guayaquil. Last night I took a bus from Quito along with about 20 other PCTs and 8 hours later we arrived this morning at the bus terminal. It was a long bus ride with not much sleep but I made it! As we descended from the Andes, it became very humid on the bus so we arrived sweaty and in need of a shower. Instant coffee worked wonders this morning – sadly I am getting used to my morning cup of dark instant coffee.
I was picked up this morning by Doctor Morlas and was driven downtown to the Municipio building where he introduced me to their whole office. I am not sure what our plans are for this afternoon but I will be picked up by my host family and Doctora Alban at 4pm and she will take me and my bags to their home.
I have been looking at some maps of the area and it looks like my new neighborhood is close to the historic area of Guayaquil or the “old town” area (with restaurants, bars and discotecas). Also, I was happy to learn that my neighborhood is also very close to the Guayaquil Tennis Club!!
www.guayaquiltenisclub.com I was also put in touch with two PCVs who play pickup basketball in the city. I hope to get in touch with them this week to meet up.
Im off on some errands with Dr. Morlas for the afternoon !
Hasta Luego!
